Does the body cleanse itself?
Most would respond with a resounding “Yes”. The Bible says in Psalm 139:14 that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Doctors agree that the body has an amazing capability of detoxing itself. Organs such as the Liver, Colon or intestines, Kidneys, lungs, skin and lymphatic system all play a part in this process. While the liver, kidney, and intestines play a major part, toxins are also released through the skin when we perspire, and the lungs when we breathe. The lymph which is the fluid that circulates our body contains white blood cells which pick up bacteria and other toxins and brings them to the lymph nodes where they are destroyed.
Why then is it necessary to daily cleanse and detox our bodies?
Most doctors today agree that although the body was designed to cleanse itself, in the world that we live in, it needs help.
Environmental pollution caused by vehicle exhaust and industrialization, chemicals in our foods and water, household cleaners and sprays, free radicals form in our bodies because of stress hormones, emotional disturbances and negative emotions, are factors that make it impossible for the body to cleanse and detox itself on its own.
A study done by the Center for Disease Control in 2005, found 148 chemicals in the blood and urine of the average American. In 2008 another study found chemicals in the umbilical cords of newborn babies. Nearly all sickness in industrialized countries is due to toxic build up. Detoxification can literally reverse the symptoms of illness and change your life.
Toxins enter our bodies daily, therefore we need to remove them daily.
Detoxing daily helps to:
- rid the body of toxins•
- remove waste materials
- maintain internal balance
- reduce the ingestion and absorption of harmful chemicals
- improve energy levels and keep you mentally alert
- keep the body physically fit
- aid the immune system to function at its best
Many realize the importance of detoxing and resort to enemas, colonics, colon cleanses and other conventional means. While these may work for some, they cannot be done daily.
Watching what we eat can aid greatly in the detoxification of our body. More organic, green foods and fruits should be among our best choices.
Dr. Elizabeth Matzkin, chief of women’s sports medicine at Harvard Medical School says, “In general exercise helps our lungs; kidneys get rid of things that can cause us onset of disease. A healthy lifestyle – eating healthy, drinking plenty of water and exercising – is important to detoxifying because it enables our body to do what is intended to do. Dec 17, 2012
